Title: Getting the brain close to the eyes: a journey towards satellite onboard AI
Abstract:
There is a very clear ongoing trend of moving data/image processing elements from the ground stations to the satellites; onboard processing has the advantage that one can send to the ground only the information that is really useful. In this talk I will discuss the implications of this trend and I will describe some recent work and applications. I will start form onboard inference and onboard change detection, and move on to a low-complexity line-based processing paradigm, with applications to image compression and super-resolution. Finally, I will discuss ternary neural networks for inverse problems with low-power constraints.
